Troubleshooting
Problem: You load the study into a chart and you see either no display or you see lines plotted at a price level not consistent with current price action.
Applies to: Volume Profiler, Volume Profiler (Cumulative) and High-Volume Levels
Solution: Click on the Menu button and make sure that the Tick Value Identification parameter is set to its default value of "Auto-Detect". If it IS set to "Auto-Detect" then this may be a situation where the study has calculated an incorrect Tick Value for the security you are charting. In this case you should look up the correct Tick Value for the security, change the Tick Value Identification parameter to "Override" and then type in your custom Tick Value in the Tick Value (Override) menu parameter.
Problem: You click on the Menu button and change some of the study parameters and then click on the OK button. The study does not appear to respond for a second or two.
Applies to: Volume Profiler, Volume Profiler (Cumulative) and High-Volume Levels
Solution: This is normal behavior, particularly during peak trading hours when trading activity is high. Remember that this study needs to access bar data at 2 or 3 different intervals simultaneously and it can take a little time for the study to gather all of the data that it needs to operate. In this respect it is much more complex than most studies that you are likely to run in the eSignal environment. Also remember that each time you enter the study menu, the study will essentially be reloading when you click on the OK button. The key here is to have a little more patience than you would with a 'traditional' study or indicator...give the study a few seconds to gather all of the historical data it needs and, once that is done, it will operate smoothly in realtime.
Problem: You select the correct Tick Value and Precision for the symbol you are charting but the price histogram appears "scrunched up" and difficult to read.
Applies to: Volume Profiler and Volume Profiler (Cumulative)
Solution: You really have two options here. The first option would be to select a slightly higher Tick Value so that the price levels plotted are slightly further apart (e.g., if you are viewing a stock you might try selecting 0.05 for the Tick Value instead of accepting the auto-detected, and more granular, value of 0.01). The other (and probably better) option is simply to move your mouse cursor into the price area on your chart, hold down the left mouse button, and adjust the vertical scaling of your chart by dragging the mouse cursor either up or down. With a little practice you will be able to quickly adjust your chart to a comfortable viewing scale.
Problem: The study is not updating frequently enough.
Applies to: Volume Profiler, Volume Profiler (Cumulative) and High-Volume Levels
Solution: Click on the Menu button and set the Update Frequency parameter to a lower value. The default value is 30 seconds but a lower value may be more appropriate in certain circumstances.
Problem: You pull the study into a Daily chart and nothing happens.
Applies to: Volume Profiler, Volume Profiler (Cumulative) and High-Volume Levels
Solution: The price/volume studies will only work with intraday bar intervals from 1-min and up. They will not operate with tick charts and they will not operate with daily, weekly or monthly bar charts.
