ScanExpert is a unique and powerful application designed for the eSignal environment. With ScanExpert you can monitor price/volume data, built-in formulas, or custom formulas for up to 500 securities in a quote-window format and all of this information will be updated in realtime throughout the trading day. You can sort on any column and there are a number of formatting options that you can apply to enhance the display and present the information in a more intuitive fashion.You can also apply an unlimited number of filters to further organize the data based on queries that you define.
ScanExpert is based on the concept of scripts. A script is a text file that defines the columns of information that will be displayed in the ScanExpert Viewer Grid. By "columns" we mean common data points like Date, Time, Open, High, Low, Close, and Volume as well as study formulas such as moving averages, oscillators, volatility indicators, etc. You can create an unlimited number of scripts using the ScanExpert Wizard. Once you have created a script, you simply load that script into the ScanExpert Viewer, select a portfolio of securities to use in conjunction with that script, and click on the Start button on the Viewer toolbar. ScanExpert Viewer will begin downloading the data for the portfolio of securities that you have selected and the grid display will begin updating.
ScanExpert ships with 80+ "built-in" study formulas and more will be added over time. Using the ScanExpert Wizard, you can combine built-in formulas to create new formulas and, using the ScanExpert Editor, you can develop and install custom formulas.
ScanExpert works on multiple timeframes. This means you can, for example, load a portfolio of securities based on the 5-min bar interval and apply formulas calculated on a completely different bar interval (or intervals). There is no limit to the number of bar intervals that can be utilized for a security and ScanExpert can work with intervals from 1-min all the way up to Monthly.
ScanExpert works in conjunction with the eSignal data feed and all symbols available to you through your eSignal subscription are available to ScanExpert (you can also create custom spreads). The ScanExpert application supports the monitoring of bar intervals from 1 minute up to Monthly.
The ScanExpert application is comprised of 5 modules:
This is the module that you will be using most of the time. The primary function of the Viewer is to display and update the output of any scripts that you have defined. Each row in the viewer represents a security that you have selected for monitoring and each column represents a data point such as open, high, low, close, or a built-in or custom formula. |

The Filters module is contained within the Viewer module and is used to perform realtime scans on queries that you create. |

The Wizard is where you will create the scripts that ultimately will run in the Viewer. With the Wizard, you select the columns of information that you want to display, assign the parameters to all formulas that will be used, combine existing formulas into new formulas, and create conditions and alerts, as needed. |

The Editor can be used to customize scripts created by Wizard, to create scripts from scratch, or to create and/or edit study formulas. However, because of the flexibility of the Wizard as well as the large number of built-in study formulas, most ScanExpert users will never need to open the Editor module. |

ESD |
eSignal Data Layer ("ESD") runs in the background whenever the Viewer is launched. ESD provides an interface between the eSignal data servers and the ScanExpert program. The operation of ESD is entirely automatic and, as such, there are no configuration options to worry about. |
