Harmonic Pattern Collection for MetaTrader 4

Workstation Requirements

Scroll Prev Top Next More

While the hardware/software requirements for MetaTrader 4 are relatively low, our HPC software adds a layer of complexity that may not be compatible with many low-end workstations.

Keep in mind that the standard MT4 is a chart-only platform, so at any given time it is only managing historical and realtime data for the charts that you currently have open. Our HPC Scanner module provides additional functionality that allows you to monitor one or more baskets of securities for pattern activity but, in doing so, it puts an additional and significant load on your workstation. For example, if you only have 4 charts open then MT4 is managing data for only 4 symbol/timeframes. If you add 3 scanners with each scanner monitoring 15 symbols, MT4 is now managing data for a total of 49 symbol/timeframes.

Given the relatively low cost of hardware and RAM these days, our minimum trading workstation configuration would be:

New generation i5 through i9 Core processor

Windows 7 or 10 64-bit

16GB RAM

2GB Video Card

250GB HDD at 5400RPM minimum

Cable Internet

Our recommended configuration would be:

New generation i7X-i9X Core processor

Windows Pro 7 or 10 64-bit

32GB RAM

8GB Video Card

Multi-Monitor configuration

1TB SSD Drive at 7200RPM minimum

Cable Internet

Also, see our note in the Installer section regarding possible HPC License String issues that may be hardware/software related.

Note: It is strongly recommended that you set the Metatrader Max bars in chart option to the smallest available setting. In MT4 the smallest setting would be 2000 bars while in MT5 the smallest setting would be 50,000 bars. This one change will make a huge difference in performance and cpu utilization, and it will use less RAM. To make this change, select Tools, then select Options from the drop-down menu. In the Options dialog click on the Charts tab. You will see the Max bars in chart setting on that page.
