Frequently Asked Questions

This section addresses some common issues that can crop up, and we also provide answers to some specific user questions:

One user reported an error when attempting to launch the installer. It is a ShellExecuteEx Error 299 with the message "Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed."

After much digging around it turns out this an anti-virus software issue, specifically with the Avast anti-virus software.  The solution is to ether turn off Avast while running the installer or add the installer to the Avast exception list. Here are a couple of links describing the issue:

https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b0000000Dy3gAAC

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/35130522/shellexecuteex-error-299-when-launching-installer-created-with-inno-setup

Rest assured that the installer itself is safe to run. After each new build we run the installer through the Virus Total scan, and each installer is digitally signed with a valid code signing certificate from Comodo Security Services.

If you do experience any difficulties with the installer please let us know immediately.

I deselected several patterns and made some other changes to the settings in the copy of the Harmonic Patterns Indicator that is running in my watchlist but the changes don't seem to stick.

When changing indicator settings in the watchlist you must click on the Apply button when done...just closing the Edit Columns dialog will not save the changes (see Watchlist Operation).

I'm running the Harmonic Patterns Indicator in a watchlist and a chart. I'm getting alerts generated in the watchlist that don't mesh with what I'm seeing in the chart.

This is absolutely due to either a difference in settings between the copy of the Harmonic Patterns Indicator running in the watchlist and the copy running in the chart, or a Time Template issue.

Confirm that the settings being used in the watchlist are also being used in the chart.

Check that the Time Template being used by the watchlist is exactly the same as the Time Template being used by the chart.

I have multiple copies of the Harmonic Patterns Indicator running in a watchlist (each copy running in a different interval) connected to a single chart. When I click on a row in the watchlist the only interval I ever get in the chart is the interval assigned to the first copy of the Harmonic Patterns Indicator running in the watchlist.

In this scenario you must be certain that your watchlist and your chart are "linked" by Symbol and by Interval. This is accomplished via two small buttons/icons that you will see at the top-left of every eSignal component. The first icon controls symbol linking and, by default, it is already set to green. The second icon controls interval linking and, by default, it is clear (meaning not used). All you need to do is click on those two icons in both the watchlist and in the chart and make sure that the symbol icon is set to the same color for both and that the interval icon is set to the same color for both. In our example template (see Quick Start) we have all Symbol-link icons set to green and all Interval-link icons set to red (see Symbol/Interval Link).

Assuming that you have everything set up correctly, be sure that you are clicking on a cell in the watchlist that is associated with the interval that you want to see in the chart. Assuming that you are running 3 different intervals in the watchlist then each row in the watchlist will be comprised of 21 Harmonic Patterns Indicator columns. Each group of 7 columns is attached to a specific interval....just make sure you are clicking within the correct group of 7 columns.

I followed the instructions in the Quick Start section and loaded one of the demo page files. I'm getting entitlement errors each time I load the page.

Make sure you have loaded the correct demo page for the specific Tier that you signed up for.

If you signed up for Tier 1 (which includes ALL indicators) then you should be able to load any of the demo pages since you are entitled to use all of the indicators.

If you signed up for Tier 2 (which includes just the Harmonic Patterns Indicator) then you should only use DemoPage3. Using any of the other pages in this case will generate errors.

And if you signed up for Tier 3 (which includes just the harmonic indicators) then you should only use DemoPage4 and, again, using any of the other demo pages will generate errors.

Note: as of August 2020 we are only offering the Pro product (equivalent of Tier 1) so you should have access to all of the demo pages.

Can I change the symbols in the watchlists that are provided in the Demo Pages, or am I stuck using the symbols provided.

You can change, add, or delete symbols as needed. The Demo pages are provided so that you can get up and running quickly. We actually recommend that you modify the demo page that you choose to suit your needs, and part of that will likely be changing the symbols and/or bar intervals being used.

For more information on how to work with watchlists (and lists of symbols) go to the eSignal Knowledgebase at:

http://kb.esignal.com/

Type in 'watchlist' as the search term and several articles will be returned. You can also use the knowledgebase to get more information on the various symbols available in eSignal.

And here is a link to a Forex symbols guide.

I'm new to eSignal and I'm not yet familiar with the eSignal symbology format. I just want some currency pairs. What is the symbol format?

eSignal supports a lot of contributors in the foreign exchange market so you have lots of options. Here is a page that describes the Forex format and contributors:

Forex symbols guide

Now, in the most basic form, you can access any currency pair composite data using the following format:

EUR A0-FX

JPY A0-FX

CAD A0-FX

AUD A0-FX

HKD A0-FX

ZAR A0-FX

NZD A0-FX

CHF A0-FX

etc.

etc.

(Note: That is  Zero-FX rather than a capital "O"-FX)

...the above would all be relative to the USD and that is inferred by how we typed them in. So whether the actual ratio is XXX/USD or USD/XXX...when you type in just the currency, it will be vs USD.

Obviously you can also do:

EURAUD A0-FX

JPYEUR A0-FX

AUDNZD A0-FX

...

...

And if you want to use a specific contributor's data (generally cleaner then the composite) then you would use the following format:

EUR@FXCM A0-FX

JPY@FXCM A0-FX

AUDNZD@FXCM A0-FX

...so here I am requesting data only from the FXCM contributor. The complete list of contributors is on the link provided above.

What is the HOP?

It is the Harmonic Optimized Price (HOP) and it replaces the Stop. See this video for more information.
